Nursing school interview guide
Nursing School Interview Questions and Sample Answers
Admissions panels want to understand why you chose nursing, how you learn and how you respond to feedback. Strong answers draw on real experiences from school, work or volunteering. You don't need clinical experience to show sound judgment.
1. Why do you want to become a nurse?
Connect a specific experience to what you want to learn about nursing.
Sample answerWhile volunteering at a community center, I saw that people were more comfortable asking questions when someone listened first. I want to develop the assessment and communication skills that let nurses turn that trust into useful care.
2. Why this nursing program?
Name something you've verified about the program and explain how it fits your goals.
Sample answerI learn best when I can practice and then talk through my decisions. Your published simulation curriculum stood out to me because it gives students structured opportunities to do both.
3. Tell us about a time you received difficult feedback.
Show the change you made and how you knew it helped.
Sample answerMy lab partner told me that my handover notes were hard to follow. I asked which details were missing, switched to a consistent order and invited them to read my next set. They could find the key information without asking me to explain it again.
4. How will you handle competing deadlines?
Use a realistic example and explain when you would ask for support.
Sample answerI put fixed obligations on the calendar first, divide assignments into short milestones and leave time for unexpected changes. If I'm falling behind, I speak to my instructor early with a concrete plan.
